Ballet Stagium, São Paulo's foremost ballet company, turns 40 this year and is marking the anniversary in style with a one-hour celebration of the work of revered samba singer and composer Adoniran Barbosa. Featuring interpretations of many of Barbosa's most famous sambas – including 'Saudosa Maloca', 'Bom dia, tristeza' and 'Trem das Onze' – the trademark ebullience of Ballet Stagium's choreography should transform Barbosa's music into a vibrant paean to the city to which both singer and dance company owe so much.
